The Inextricable Link between Art and Design
The Design “scene” in Miami is omnipresent. As the city is literally being built before our eyes, the number of residential, civic and corporate buildings is astounding. As lines, color, forms and shape determine the design of every building and object, so do those principles apply to every work of art.
Miami’s Design District is a dynamic neighborhood that is almost directly adjacent and parallel to Wynwood, the art epicenter of Miami. One of the best experiences of these multidisciplinary areas is “Second Saturdays.” Occurring the second Saturday of each month, many individual design boutiques and galleries in both neighborhoods, stay open late, and welcome guests to peruse their stores and shop. Many host private or public events with an array of cocktails, wines and new works on display.

As referenced in the fashion section, though an important number of fashion houses, jewelers, art galleries and restaurants are coming to the neighborhood, the heart of the Miami Design District is still “design.”
There are free-standing stores that line the streets, as well as a number of buildings that house even more stores. Brands with a showroom or store-front presence in the Design District include some of the most famous in the world: Fendi Casa, Armani Casa, Poltrona Frau with Cappellini and Cassina, Allessi, Missoni, Luminaire Lab, Jonathan Adler and about 150 more.
